Fernando "Nando" Parrado was born on December 9th, 1949 in Montevideo, Uruguay to Seler and Eugenia Parrado. When he was younger he had excelled in the athletics department, specifically the sport of rugby. He was the middle child of three, he had an older sister Graciela, and a younger sister Susy. on October 13th, 1972, at the age of 23 he was in a plane crash in the Andes Mountain range in Argentina. This tested the strength and determination of the team to stay alive. After 72 days in the Andes Nando and his friend Roberto made it out on a long treacherous trek to farming peasants in a village. Since those fateful two and a half months Nando has changed his life. Even though he was a celebrity he had to exchange his studies to take part in his family’s business, before the crash and death of his mother and sister his mother had worked and taken quite a load from the business which had been moved to Nando. Nando has come quite a long way since he had worked in the family business, in 2007 he was chosen to be a keynote speaker for the IASB (International Association of Speakers) , and keynote and closing speaker for the NSA ( National Speakers Association). In 2009 he was the cover of "SPEAKER", one of the most influential magazines in the conference industry.
